Our challenge

Creating an ESG roadmap, in line with the CSRD requirements and the company’s strategy

Our solution

Developing a new ESG strategy based on stakeholder surveys, desk research and a materiality analysis, and capturing that strategy in a sustainability report that takes steps towards CSRD compliance

Global player

Reynaers Group, which operates in over 70 countries worldwide, is a leading specialist in architectural aluminium and steel applications and encompasses two brands: Reynaers Aluminium and Forster. For several years, the group has placed a focus on sustainable products, eco-design, and energy-efficient solutions. And these sustainable efforts do not go unnoticed: in 2023, for instance, Reynaers won the Voka Award for Sustainable Business.

However, this alone does not suffice. After all, the construction sector experiences heavy social pressure to reduce its footprint and to communicate transparently about its impact(s), both positive and negative. Moreover, Reynaers Group’s activities fall within the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This European directive makes sustainable entrepreneurship obligatory for all European large companies.

Together for a sustainable strategy

To continue its sustainable path, Reynaers Group joined forces with Pantarein. Together, we developed a completely new ESG strategy. This strategy is grounded in a thorough materiality analysis, is in line with the principles of the CSRD, and was created in cooperation with all important internal and external stakeholders. As such, we were able to determine the group’s sustainability-related impacts, risks and opportunities.

The materiality analysis resulted in a strategy with 3 pillars (Planet, People and Society) and 9 impact domains: climate, sustainable use of materials, sustainable construction, lifelong learning, health and safety, positive work culture, ethical behaviour, sustainable value chain, and transparency. For each of these impact domains, we set concrete targets and KPIs. The proposed targets were discussed during thematic sessions with Reynaers’ technical experts. As a result, we were able to ensure broad internal support for ESG.

Thanks to this trajectory, we now focus not just on our own activities, but on those of our entire value chain. For instance, we also include the impact of aluminium mining as an important focal point in our new strategy. This, along with other focal points, was revealed through the process that we undertook in collaboration with Pantarein. Their expertise in CSRD and ESRS is indispensable in order to stay sharp in today’s challenging ESG context.

Step-by-step towards CSRD compliance

As we have concluded the drawing-up of the new CSR strategy, we are now developing an integrated sustainability report. In this report, Reynaers will transparently disclose its new strategy and impact areas, its targets, and the results that the group has already achieved.

Throughout the coming years, Reynaers will continue to take steps towards CSRD compliance. To support that goal, Pantarein has drawn up a roadmap: we are setting up the necessary data flows and working out relevant policies. In the near future, we will also guide Reynaers Group in its due diligence process. Through this process, we will identify the business activities’ possible risks for people and the environment. This will result in the creation of a working tool that Reynaers can use to prevent, limit or remedy negative effects.
