Our challenge

Refining the sustainability strategy and working together towards a CSRD-compliant report

Our solution

Identify impacts, risks and opportunities through stakeholder surveys, conduct an in-depth CSRD gap analysis, and take steps towards CSRD compliance

Family multinational

Soudal, established in 1966, is a world leader in sealants, adhesives and PU foams. Known for its innovation, the Belgian family-owned company serves diverse industries across the construction and automotive sectors, among others. As a trusted name, Soudal shapes industries by providing reliable and environmentally responsible products that have a strong positive impact on energy-efficient building and living.

Nevertheless, specific ESG efforts are required. On the one hand, the chemical sector has a negative reputation in terms of sustainability, with its stakeholders therefore being increasingly demanding in terms of transparency: the common substances in Soudal’s products also have an undeniable impact on the environment. On the other, Soudal falls under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This reporting obligation has resulted in the need for an integrated ESG strategy being placed high on the company’s agenda.

Refining the strategy

To take further steps along its sustainability path, it was necessary to translate Soudal’s current sustainability strategy into today’s needs and obligations. To this end, we not only analysed the impacts, but also the risks and opportunities inherent to the company’s activities. We did this by conducting a broad survey, both internally and externally. From financial institutions to customers, the variety of input from stakeholders helped us conduct a comprehensive risk & opportunity analysis, a crucial component of the double materiality study.

‍To give the Soudal strategy more direction, we then worked on targets and KPIs. We formed working groups, in which objectives that are in line with the company’s activities and bear witness to its ambition were openly discussed. The outcome was a comprehensive roadmap that defines the ‘Soudal way forward’.

In collaboration with Pantarein, we are strategically integrating sustainability into our operations, in line with CSRD expectations. The outcomes of this collaboration not only help us mitigate risk; they are also a pragmatic approach to generating sustainable value for our stakeholders over time.

Value creation through transparency

Central to our partnership is the commitment to transparency. Soudal recognises the urgent need for companies to communicate openly about their impact, and has therefore embraced this ethos. As a result, we are working meticulously on a comprehensive annual integrated report as well as on the EcoVadis score, the CO2 calculation and the EU Taxonomy. In this way, we want to establish Soudal’s current position within the playing field for sustainable entrepreneurship, and guarantee full transparency towards stakeholders.
