Recommendations for an improved Flemish biodiversity policy

In its Nature Report 2023, INBO describes the four major challenges facing biodiversity policy in Flanders. Based on their definition of the barriers, the researchers provide comprehensive ‘solution paths’ to tackle those challenges and achieve the goals of the European Green Deal. Pantarein took part in this journey, transforming the extensive research results into an inspiring report with clear infographics.

Our challenge

Informing policymakers and politicians about the challenges of biodiversity policy, and inspiring them with possible solution paths to improve it

Our solution

A synthesis report that excels in clarity: a logical narrative, smoothly written texts based on scientific research, illuminating infographics, and clear takeaways in summary texts

Flemish nature policy within the European framework

2020 was a pivotal year for European nature policy. The European Commission launched an ambitious Green Deal, providing key steps to effectively address the biodiversity and climate crisis by 2030 and 2050. This has implications for all European member states, including Flanders.

INBO regularly reports on the state of Flemish nature, and formulates policy recommendations for the future. In its Nature Report 2023, the institute analyses whether Flanders can meet the targets set out in the European Green Deal and its Biodiversity Strategy by 2030. The report also provides solution paths to achieve those goals. The objective: to inform and inspire all stakeholders, and especially policymakers and politicians.

Plea for an integrated policy

To address the many nature-related challenges, the Nature Report 2023 advocates an overarching, integrated approach. Four chapters address equally important challenges: drought & floods, climate change, nature networks, and liveable cities. The core of the report consists of seven integrated solution paths, which chart common barriers and solutions.

Pantarein reworked this scientific document into an easy-to-read and inspiring report. To convey the core of the story clearly and concisely, we added an illuminating infographic for each chapter and composed a succinct summary. This provides INBO with powerful tools to communicate its research findings and policy recommendations to policymakers, politicians and interested citizens alike.

The Nature Report 2023 represents another successful collaboration between INBO and Pantarein. In previous years, we likewise realised successful Nature Reports together.

The team behind the Nature Report has a wealth of scientific information at its disposal. At Pantarein, we translate that content into a comprehensible narrative, scannable texts, and clear infographics: the best way to convey important policy recommendations quickly and clearly
